The lines are reminiscent of an identifying code - like the lines of our fingerprints, or a barcode. It speaks to how we find ourselves in the art we enjoy and collect, and how those pieces meld into our environment to become an extension of who we are and how we show ourselves to the world.
The obstruction of the lines is also a play in duality: is the painting underneath obscured, or is it the addition of the obstructing design that gives it interest and makes it whole? There's no right answer - it's all in viewer interpretation.
